HEY DISTRICT 3!
This #d3Didyouknow will be in honor of the NBA SEASON that has just begun! Don't worry I have some great news that ties into our culture as well! Did you know that Raymond Townsend was the first NBA Player with Filipino Roots in 1978? Followed by Ricardo Brown in 1979? And this year there is another NBA player with FILIPINO ROOTS! His Name is Jordan Clarkson and he plays for the L.A. Lakers! His mother Annette traces her roots to Pampanga. He made his first NBA bucket yesterday against the Houston Rockets! Hopefully this opens a pathway to more Filipino's joining the NBA! Maybe even me=] Have a great day guys and gals! http://www.gmanetwork.com/…/nba-fil-am-rookie-jordan-clarks…

D-WHAT?! D3~~~~~~~~~~
Hi guys! Hope your semester is going really well~ In honor of Filipino American History Month, I've got an awesome little factoid for you! #D3DidYouKnow that former president Corazon Aquino graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1953? She later went on to become the first Asian female President in world history, making her a huge icon. She was even invited to speak before the House of Representatives. How did she become President, you might be asking? Well, upon the assassination of her husband, Benigno Aquino Jr., she stepped in and gained the trust and support of the people, sparking the People Power Revolution. As a result, she restored democracy in the Philippines. If you're wondering what the "L" sign is, it's her way of saying the Tagalog word "laban," which means "to fight." During her time in power, this hand gesture represented Cory Aquino's willingness to fight for her people; it can also be interpreted as inspiring others to fight for what they believe is right! Hope you enjoyed this #D3DidYouKnow! I hope to see y'all at the next D3 GBM, which is this Friday, October 24th at CMSV! Ingat po kayo~ Hello District III!
HAPPY FILIPINO AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH! #D3DidYouKnow The Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) was the first to pass a resolution to commemorate Filipino American history month! Check out more information on FANHS and a little bit more history on how Filipino American History month came to be. http://fanhs-national.org/filam/ ALSO #D3DidYouKnow that in paired with the Philippine Consulate General, FANHS hosted an "Opening Ceremony" event, last week, to not only feature a photo exhibit of "Filipino Americans in New York" but also commemorate several individuals who have demonstrated commitment to the preservation of Filipino American history! One award in particular (The Outstanding Youth Award) went to Miss Kristina Rodulfo, past NYU IFA President and also LEGACY co-founder/program director! Awesome start to the beginning of Filipino American History month! |
