Hey there D3!
#D3DidYouKnowThat there has always been a debate about whether karaoke was invented by a Filipino or a Japanese inventor? Roberto del Rosario created the Karaoke Sing Along System in 1975 which is said to be a multi-purpose machine. A Japanese musician invented the karaoke machine four years earlier, however, Roberto del Rosario was the first to patent the product, which makes him the first patented producer of the karaoke. Read more about Roberto del Rosario here. With that said, I hope this gives you guys some ideas for future karaoke collabs!

#D3Didyouknow that the phrase "the Boondocks" is actually a relic of American Occupation in the Philippines? It comes from the word "Bundok" meaning mountain. That actually makes sense because some people refer the boondocks as the middle of nowhere. I honestly didn't know that. I always thought it was just a Cartoon Show. Here's the interesting article I've read that gives the history of how it came about. Take a look! http://www.npr.org/blogs/codeswitch/2013/10/07/230069931/how-far-is-it-to-the-boondocks-try-the-phillippines Heeeyyyoooooo D3!!
For this week's #D3DidYouKnow, we're going to take a look at the tradition of "Harana." What's harana, you might ask? Harana is the art of serenading that special someone in your life! Traditionally, harana is practiced in rural towns and villages of the Philippines. Some well-known harana songs are "O Ilaw," "Walay Angay," "No Duaduaem Pay," and "Ay Kalisud;" although, you can use ANY song you want! Even though Valentine's Day has passed, why not show your love every time you get the chance? Here's a link on courtship in the Philippines:http://www.seasite.niu.edu/Tagalog/love.htm So guys. don't be a "duwag," grab your "tulay" and go after that "dalagang Pilipina!" Hey D3,
So I know you already knew that Pope Francis visited the Philippines in late January. It was certainly such a great honor for the Philippines to host his Holiness during such times. But this #D3DidYouKnow comes from a CNN report that raises the question of the homeless families were temporarily moved away from Roxas Boulevard to a beach resort about 50 miles away from the Papal visit. When questioned about the exodus, the Philippines Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) responded by saying that it was to ensure the safety of Roxas Boulevard for both Pope Francis and the homeless families. Meeting and speaking with the poor families was one of the primary issues that Pope Francis wanted to address when visiting the Philippines. If you don't know what that is, now you will know..
On November 23rd, 2009 in the town of Ampatuan in Maguindanao province on the island of Mindandao 58 people were killed after their convoy was attacked. There are more than 100 suspects still standing free today and some from the powerful Ampatuan clan. Prosecutors believe the court will only start handing down verdicts next year the earliest. Just like Hurricane Haiyan, the work, memory, and care do not end after a few months since tragedy has struck. It keeps going and we keep giving and remembering what has happened. November 23rd was 2 days ago but take the time to give a moment of silence for those who have fallen and for the families. Here are some things Filipinos all around did this past Sunday to remember the victims from candle lights to art. http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/maguindanaomassacre http://www.gmanetwork.com/…/in-photos-a-quiet-remembrance-o… HEY DISTRICT 3!

Hi guys! Hope your semester is going really well~ In honor of Filipino American History Month, I've got an awesome little factoid for you! #D3DidYouKnow that former president Corazon Aquino graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1953? She later went on to become the first Asian female President in world history, making her a huge icon. She was even invited to speak before the House of Representatives. How did she become President, you might be asking? Well, upon the assassination of her husband, Benigno Aquino Jr., she stepped in and gained the trust and support of the people, sparking the People Power Revolution. As a result, she restored democracy in the Philippines. If you're wondering what the "L" sign is, it's her way of saying the Tagalog word "laban," which means "to fight." During her time in power, this hand gesture represented Cory Aquino's willingness to fight for her people; it can also be interpreted as inspiring others to fight for what they believe is right! Hope you enjoyed this #D3DidYouKnow! I hope to see y'all at the next D3 GBM, which is this Friday, October 24th at CMSV! Ingat po kayo~ Hello District III!

Just yesterday, Tuesday September 2nd, Philippine House of Representatives justice committee dismissed President Aquino's charges of violation of the constitution, betrayal of public trust, and corruption. Earlier today there was a student activist protest lightning rally in front of Malacanag Palace, which usually houses all Philippine presidents.
